This article will demonstrate how to set up an account and purchase I Bonds

How to Set Up an Account

1. From the home page (www.treasurydirect.gov), under Account Login, click "Treasury Direct"
2. Click "Login"
3. (at the bottom left) Click "Open a New Account"
4. Click "Apply Now"
5. (select "Individual") and Click "Submit"
6. Fill out all the information requested and click "Submit"
7. You will need to choose a security image, create a password and select/answer three security questions, then click "Submit"

→         After this process is completed, you will receive a confirmation email to the email address entered previously that includes your new account number. You will need to login for the first time and enter your account number (from the confirmation email) to receive a one-time passcode for security. (You will need to do this about every 90 days). Once they enter the passcode, you will be prompted to enter your password and continue to the site.

How to Buy I-Bonds

1. You must login to www.treasurydirect.gov
2. Click on "Buy Direct"
3. Under Savings Bond, select "Series I" > "Submit"
4. Enter the dollar amount you wish to purchase under "Purchase Amount"
5. Select the source of funds (the dropdown will include the banking information you entered during set up)
6. Select "Single Purchase" OR, schedule repeat purchases as applicable
7. "Submit"
